Virgin Galactic announced its plans to open ticket sales for its upcoming trips into space to the public beginning Wednesday, February 16.
In this way, the aerospace tourism company will allow people the opportunity to buy a seat on the plane that will take them to the edge of space and back to Earth.
As reported by Virgin Galactic, the tickets will be priced at $450,000; those who are interested must make a deposit of $150,000 dollars and pay the remaining amount before the flight.
The company posted a request on its website which must be completed by the interested parties. Virgin’s intention is to sell 1,000 seats for the next flights to be carried out on its Unity 23 aircraft from 2022.
As the company explains, these types of vehicles take off from the air after being transported by a cargo plane called White Knight Two. When released, Unity 23 ignites its rocket motor and begins its ascent into space, more than 50 miles above Earth.
It is at this moment that passengers can unfasten their seat belts and float freely in the cabin for a few minutes.
It should be remembered that in July of last year Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Galactic, participated in the company’s first such flight, marking his entry into the field of aerospace tourism.
This trend seeks to allow the civilian crew to also travel to space and that this type of journey is not reserved only for military or scientific personnel.
