Schames landed at American Airlines in May ’93 to fill the role of check-in agent. After a brief tour of different positions in the company, he was appointed Airport Manager in 2005, a position he held until 2018, when the Southern Cone operations: Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru were added. Before taking up his new role, he had been appointed General Manager in Argentina and the Southern Cone.
Giraldo, meanwhile, joined the company more than 30 years ago, having passed through the Flight Service, Sales, Cargo and Operations departments. He currently oversees American’s operations in Mexico, Central America, Ecuador and Colombia.
“This year the regions of Latin America and the Caribbean have had great growth, with seven new destinations, more than 40 new routes and strategic alliances in South America that are increasing,” said Freig. “We have outstanding leaders in our team who will continue to strengthen the international division and I am personally very pleased to see José María and Gonzalo perform in their new roles,” added the Vice President of International for American Airlines.
