Google cancels the production of its folding phone | Digital Trends Spanish

Foldable phones could soon become a trend; in fact, there are already some manufacturers like Samsung that have launched a couple of these modern devices.

Everything indicates that other companies could join this trend. Google could have been close to doing so, however, the technology company would have suspended the production of its first folding smartphone.

This device was never known and only learned about it through leaks. From the company they have decided that the phone never reaches the market since they do not consider it competitive enough.

Google realized that its device was unlikely to be able to compete on equal terms with Samsung’s Galaxy Folds, especially in markets such as the United States and Europe.

This vision, in addition to the related high costs, would have led the company to cancel the manufacture of its Pixel Fold.

Ross Young, a journalist for Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), noted that multiple sources confirmed to him that Google will not launch any Pixel Folds in 2021 or during the first half of 2022.

“Our sources indicated that Google believed the product would not be as competitive as it should be,” Young said.

“They probably thought that competing with Samsung in the United States and in Europe for a small niche market that faces higher costs than its main competitor would make the odds against the project greater.”

Several analysts expected the Pixel Fold to feature similar specs to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, including an internal foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
