A serious beginner’s mistake made Google with their search engine domain for South Africa because they forgot to register it in time for its renewal and it was down for several hours on July 1st.
A whois lookup revealed that the domain name expired on June 25, 2022 and was pending removal on July 1. Take a look at the screenshot below.
“Google is aware of an issue affecting its google.co.za domain name and is taking steps to restore it. In the meantime, the google.com domain remains fully functional and we encourage South African users to make use of this URL instead.”
This is not the first time that Google commits this omission, in 2015 the same thing happened with Google.com, because an official forgot to renew the domain.
