Government of Burkina Faso denies that the army has taken power

Burkina Faso’s government acknowledged on Sunday that there were shootings at various barracks in the country but denied that the army had seized power.

Government spokesman Alkassoum Maiga said in a statement that “information circulating on social media tends to suggest an army takeover on Sunday.” “The government, although it recognizes the existence of the shots in some barracks, denies this information and calls on the population to remain calm,” he added.
