It’s over. Niantic has decided disconnect servers and close the doors of ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’. The game took advantage of the mechanics of ‘Pokémon Go‘and applied it to the magical world of JK Rowling, but apparently the number of players that there are right now must not be enough to continue to pay for its maintenance.
“Not all games are designed to last forever”
So Niantic has made the decision to give a worthy ending to the game’s plot, which will take place in several special events. ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ will no longer be available on Google Play, the App Store, and the Galaxy Store on December 6, and the servers will be shut down permanently on January 31, 2022.
The few remaining weeks of the game will be very abundant: daily rewards will be larger, potions will take half as long to brew, there will be no daily limits to open or send gifts and items such as magic energy and ingredients will appear more frequently on the map among other bonuses. Before the closing, the players will have a few last days in which it will be very easy to level up.
On the official statement in English you can read that “not all games are designed to last forever”, and they thank the entire community for the games and events held over the last two years. They promise that they will apply everything they learned in ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ to other projects of which they have not specified anything.
The company also advises that players spend all the coins, as it will not accept refunds “except those that are required by law” and will no longer allow more to be purchased as of December 6. Niantic it will also delete all social media accounts and community forums players, so there will be very little trace of the game.
