Honor Magic 4 Pro, the cell phone that seeks to compete with the iPhone 13 Pro | Digital Trends Spanish

In addition to its presentation event in Barcelona, within the framework of MWC 2022, Honor held a meeting in Mexico to give more details of its high-end Magic 4 Pro. The speech was more or less the same in the local division: the phone is a more than serious competitor for the iPhone 13 Pro.

Once we had it for a few minutes, we can say that, indeed, it is a mobile that feels solid both on the outside and on the inside. Despite its 6.81-inch size (2K resolution), there’s no such thing as accidental slippage. Includes IP68 rating.

Of course, due to its metallic finish on the back, the fingerprints are marked immediately, so you may want to use it with the cover that will be included in the purchase package, where the charger will also take place, which will allow you to put 100 percent the 4,600 mAh battery in about 30 minutes thanks to 100-watt SuperCharge technology.

And speaking of the rear, that module that houses the optics, which barely protrudes a bit, looks modern. The set is made up of three main sensors: 50 MP camera, 50 MP ultra wide angle and 64 MP periscopic telephoto (3.5x optical zoom).

On a first impression, the camera responds quickly, with an interface ready with the intention that the user shoot from photos to 4K video at 60 frames per second without complications. This will be one of the aspects that will be tested the most in a complete review, since it is one of the ones that Honor boasts the most, even putting it above what the iPhone 13 Pro offers in image.

On the right side, the brand decided to place the power button (with a red tone) and those that allow you to control the volume of the unit. All of them are easily accessible.

Multimedia

The wide screen of the cell phone stands out for a precise display of colors, up to 1,070 million on the display according to the specifications given by the firm. Also, when it comes to navigating the interface, indeed, the scrolling is subtle, especially when the phone has the dynamic refresh rate active, which goes from 1 to 120 Hz as required, without the intervention of the people.

The other options that can be checked from the general settings are high (120 Hz), medium (90 Hz) and standard (60 Hz).

Other goodies offered by the panel of the Magic 4 Pro – and that will be put to the test in the full review – is its automatic and real-time conversion of SDR content to HDR, brightness of 1,000 nits and compatibility with HDR +. By the way, the display is interrupted by a notch in the upper left corner, which contains the optics dedicated to selfies and the 3D depth camera for precise facial recognition.

This appetizer we had with the screen of the new member of the Magic family leaves a good taste in our mouths, but we will have to be patient to give a final verdict.

Performance and autonomy

By having the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, the Magic 4 Pro already opens up various possibilities, such as responding effectively in the execution of all kinds of applications and having a 5G connection. From the Honor division in Mexico, it is said that the mobile will be compatible with the 5G that Telcel has just announced in the country.

As a backup, the phone’s base configuration is 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. There may be an international version with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of space.

In the few minutes that we were able to run mobile developments on the Magic 4 Pro, there is no doubt that it feels like a cell phone capable of responding to all kinds of tasks effectively. However, we will have to wait for what a deeper review says.

In addition to the fact that it can be ready in minutes due to its 100-watt fast charge, both wired and wireless, Honor representatives commented that its autonomy is enough not to leave people halfway through their day to day.

First conclusions

Honor Mexico does not yet have the final price and the arrival date of the Magic 4 Pro to the territory and other Latin American markets. What does not go unnoticed is that this cell phone was priced above 1,000 euros, 1,100 to be precise, so it will also compete at the top of the market regarding price.

Although the Honor 50 is already considered a high-end smartphone by the Chinese brand, the new Magic is placed even higher than it.

Expectations are high for content playback, video recording, performance, and autonomy. So there is nothing left but to wait for more time for a final conclusion.
