Hotel in Miami uses robots to bring food to guests | Digital Trends Spanish


A newly opened Miami hotel uses a fleet of delivery robots to bring food to its guests.

Upon check-in, visitors to the AC Hotel Miami Dadeland they receive a QR code that directs them to the FanFood page (where food from Charley’s and Guaca-mole restaurants are offered), a food service to your room. When ordering any dish, a compact robot on wheels with a jovial appearance will be in charge of delivering the order to the door of the room.

The robots, operated by the Cartken company, move autonomously and can detect and avoid moving objects within a radius of five meters (about 16 feet).

Once en route, guests receive an alert on their cell phone notifying them when the robot is about to arrive. Each order receives a unique pin that the customer must enter on their cell phone to open the compartment where the food is stored.

The AC Hotel Miami Dadeland (part of the Marriott chain) claims to be the first to use Cartken delivery robots.

In addition to hospitality, several other sectors are beginning to implement the use of robots. For example, they are used in airports for the delivery of purchases. Also, the Department of Homeland Security said it plans to use robotic dogs to guard the southern border.
