An official preview of House of the Dragon released this Thursday, May 5, the people of HBO, for the long-awaited prequel to game of Thrones showing the civil war in the Targaryen house.
The story that is located before Jon Snow and Daenerys, is inspired by the book fire & blood by George RR Martin, dates back to the height of the Targaryen Empire during the Dance with the Dragons, which is a civil war that broke out between House Targaryens over the succession to the Iron Throne.
“Men would sooner put the kingdom to the torch than see a woman ascend the Iron Throne,” says Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best), who hands over her throne in favor of her male cousin, to a young princess Rhaenyra ( Milly Alcock), a major player in all the fire and blood that is to come. And there is the spark that will set Westeros on fire.
King Viserys I is the current occupant of the Iron Throne, and he has named his eldest son, Rhaenyra, as his successor. The Lords of Westeros, including House Stark and House Baratheon, have sworn allegiance to Viserys and his chosen successor, but those who work in the shadows wish to change the outcome.
“History doesn’t remember blood, it remembers names,” says Prince Daemon Targaryen (matt smith), Rhaenyra’s uncle, another would-be pretender to the throne.
