Ring Video doorbells, like the Ring Video Doorbell 3, are popular choices when it comes to home security that you can install yourself. While you probably already know that these cameras can record what happens in your home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, what you may not have known is that they also give you a live view and to the minute of what happens on your property at any time through Ring Live View.

The Ring Live View feature allows you to open a live video and audio portal at any time to take a look at your property. Whether it’s monitoring kids, seeing if a windstorm has damaged your home while you’re on vacation, or monitoring yard work, Live View can be a convenient way to catch up on what’s going on and try to fix it.
Live View works by opening a video link to your Ring Video Doorbell or one of Ring’s many wireless cameras. Use the designated Wi-Fi selected during the initial setup of your device and the app to establish a steady video stream so you can see what’s going on.
To access Live View, simply open the Ring app and tap on one of your cameras. You can scroll through the previous events or click on the icon Tap to Go Live. Live View will open and you can see it in the app or open it in full screen. To close it, click Finish live.
Depending on the Ring device you own, there are a few additional things you can do while using Live View.
- Listen– You can hear what is happening on your property by pressing the speaker button.
- Two-way conversation– You can talk to whoever is in your house by choosing the microphone button and speaking.
- Activate a siren– If you need to scare away a person or an animal, you can activate the device’s alarm. Click the button Siren, which looks a bit like an exclamation point, and confirms activation in the pop-up window.
- Turn on Ring lights– If you have Ring smart lights around your property linked to your camera, you can also choose to turn them on.
Unfortunately, for some people who were hoping to use Ring cameras as a baby monitor, there is a limit to the amount of time you can access the live stream. As of publication, it is approximately 10 minutes.
Ring Live View is accessible to anyone with a Ring camera and account. Fortunately, unlike many other Ring services and options, you don’t need to pay for it, it comes standard on all Ring cameras and doorbells.
If you’re having trouble accessing Live View fast enough, the company has come up with a solution, but it involves using another app. Download the app called Rapid Ring. It works with your regular Ring app, but allows you to receive notifications and respond faster.
If you are having trouble accessing Ring Live View, it could be for a number of reasons: Wi-Fi connection or power may be off. If you’re using solar power, maybe a few cloudy days have drained the camera’s internal battery.
Check device status within the Ring app for clues. Are you still having problems? Your Ring app may be out of date and needs to be updated, or your phone may be using a different Wi-Fi network than the one the camera is using. Less often, you may need to restart your camera to get it working properly again.
Being able to take a quick look at your home from your distant office or even across the country can come in handy in many ways. Whether you just want to see the weather at home or need to keep an eye on something, Ring Live View is a powerful tool.
