How long should manned space missions last? | Digital Trends Spanish

The Russian space engineering company Energia published the results of its research that sought to establish the optimal duration of a manned mission to space.

According to the study, this period should not exceed 120 days, since afterwards fatigue decreases the efficiency of the astronauts.

“After analyzing the years of the uninterrupted presence of man in space, we have come to the conclusion that it is not profitable to constantly have a crew in space,” said Vladimir Soloviov, chief engineer of Energy in an article by Sputnik.

After 100 to 120 days of staying on the orbital platform, the efficiency of the astronauts is reduced, Soloviov remarked.

The engineer is also responsible for the flights of the Russian module of the International Space Station (ISS). As a result of this research, he explains that in the new orbital station that Russia plans to build, expeditions should stay for shorter periods of time.

In the case of cosmonauts, space missions today typically last an average of 180 days on the space station.

It should be remembered that the Roscosmos agency is evaluating ending its participation in the EEI from 2028 because the platform is at the limit of its capacity.

Also, a few days ago, the authorities of that country indicated that the Russian module of the station is “in the last”, warning about the critical situation in which it is.

The station that Russia plans to build will have a modular structure and will consist of five modules at the beginning, with observation windows and Wi-Fi connection to receive space tourists.
