Although passwords used to help us keep our accounts safe, they have long since ceased to be a more secure mechanism. And if you add to the above that you must remember them all, the problem is even greater. If you want to do without it, you need to know how to access Microsoft apps and services without passwords.

Microsoft had already given an outline in this regard by implementing a function that allows you to dispense with your password to log in to Windows 11, although this is the biggest step in the company’s effort to leave them in the past.
What is the risk of passwords
According to Microsoft, weak passwords are the entry point for most attacks on business and consumer accounts: 18 billion events of this nature are recorded each year, or 579 attacks per second.
One of the biggest problems is that a really strong password is often impossible to remember. Most sites require a combination of symbols, numbers, uppercase and lowercase, as well as not repeating one you’ve used before. To avoid these problems, many users choose personal phrases, such as first names, last names or dates such as birthdays, or use their combinations in more than one site.
This makes them easy targets for hackers, who use automated applications to test many password possibilities, or deceive users through techniques of phishing, where the users themselves submit their credentials. “An account without a password reduces the risk of password and phishing attacks,” says Microsoft.
To bypass passwords in Redmond company services and applications, you must have the Microsoft Authenticator application installed on your device and linked to your Microsoft account.
Microsoft Authenticator is a free application (available for ios and Android) that allows you to dispense with your password, although instead you must use your fingerprint, a facial recognition system or a PIN.
Once you have installed and linked the Microsoft Authenticator app with your account, you will have to follow these steps:
- Login to your microsoft account.
- Choose Security and later Advanced security options.
- On Additional security options, Choose Activate in section Account without password.
- Follow the instructions on the screen and approve the notification that you will receive in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
If you want to use passwords again, you just need to go through the same process and choose the option deactivate in section Account without password.
On Windows laptops, you can also use Windows Hello facial recognition or fingerprint login.
The tool is compatible, among others, with the following Microsoft applications:
- Microsoft 365
- Microsoft Teams
- Family Safety
- Microsoft Edge
