How to choose a bathrobe: eight things to look for to avoid getting cold

In this article we explain what you should take into account when you are going to choose a bathrobe, since things have their science, more than it appears. We can take into account the following conditions:

1. The size

It is advisable to always choose a size larger than ours so that it is loose and thus we have more drying surface. On the other hand, we will avoid very tight sizes because they will give us a feeling of cold when in contact with wet cotton and because humidity can cause friction in the armpits and other parts of delicate skin.

2. The thickness of the fabric

Thickness matters. If we choose a very thick fabric bathrobe it will dry us quickly and comfort us, but if the sink is humid and does not ventilate well, it will dry more and with difficulty and in the next shower it will not be so pleasant. In addition, it will be a good substrate for the growth of fungi, bacteria and mites.

On the other hand, with a thinner cloth we may not dry completely well and feel cold, although if the environment is dry, it will lose moisture more easily. In addition, in successive washes it will lose fibers and therefore it will sooner rather than later lose its efficiency. In this regard, a 400 gram bathrobe is already considered quality.

3. The type of fabric

The fabric is important for a matter of absorption and perspiration, as well as resistance to washing and quality. The ideal is 100% cotton, but there are models with a synthetic fiber part that are cheaper: they perspire and absorb worse. However, they resist going through washing machines and dryers better than cotton and can be washed at 90ºC, which improves their disinfection, especially with regard to fecal and skin fungi.

4. The length

It matters more than we think. A long bathrobe allows us to dry our legs. However, it can be uncomfortable to move around the house. On the other hand, a short bathrobe may seem insufficient and leave the lower extremities damp and cold.

5. With or without hood

For people with long hair, the hood is not recommended because it will not completely dry the hair and, on the other hand, it will cost more to leave it without moisture. It is best for these people to use a bathrobe without a hood and a small hair towel. On the other hand, in people with short hair the hooded bathrobe is ideal.

6. With pockets

Pockets are always welcome, even if they raise the price of the piece.

7. The color

Choosing bright colors can be very attractive and we will enjoy our bathrobe in the first year of use. However, after successive washes – it should be done every week – the color will lose vividness and in the end its paleness will give the impression that the garment is old. Tip: a light bathrobe is more suffered.

8. The price

Do not be fooled by designs from big brands that may not be suitable for you, they will go out of style in two years and also have little weight and a lot of synthetic fiber. Bet on quality by looking at the percentage of cotton and the weight of the bathrobe.
