How to get help from young people for rent


Last October, the Government approved an item of 200 million euros in the General State Budget for 2022 to Help the youths to pay the rent and, in this way, promote their emancipation. It has not yet been launched, although it is expected that this initiative will take shape at the Council of Ministers next Tuesday, January 18.

However, there are some points that have already been clear.

Who can benefit from this help and how much will they receive?

They will be able to benefit from this help young people from 18 to 35 years old who have an annual income situated below 24,318 euros. On the other hand, the maximum amount they will receive will be 250 euros per month for two years, and the amount to be received will depend on the income of each of the applicants. The Executive estimates that approximately 70,000 young people will benefit.

Can you only receive one aid for each rental contract?

This question has been asked by many of the people who share a flat. The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, was very clear about it: the aid will go to each individual and not to every lease. Therefore, all people who meet the requirements may benefit and it may be the case that several people who live in the same home obtain the aid. Nevertheless, the sum of the total amount may not exceed the rental price.

Is it compatible with other aids?

The Young Bonus for rent It is not compatible with other aid intended to pay the rent. of regional or local administrations. However, people who are receiving non-contributory pensions or the Minimum Vital Income (IMV) may receive the subsidy.

Is there a limit on the rental price?

The Government wants to prevent this aid from contributing to the rental price continuing to rise. Therefore, one of the requirements that will be demanded of the people who apply for the aid is that the maximum rental price does not exceed a certain amount, although it is expected that different maximums will be established depending on the area in which the applicant’s home is located.
