How to make lettuce tea to be relaxed and sleep better

It may not sound a bit extravagant to think of an infusion or lettuce teabut the truth is that in the past it was a very helpful remedy for those people who had trouble sleeping, as much as chamomile or valerian could be.

In fact the lettuce leaves boiled and left to rest in the water for a time they have even been a medicinal resource, although diuretic properties are attributed to it, anti-inflammatory and of course relaxing.

The truth is that lettuce does not lack these properties And it is also a vegetable with numerous vitamins (A, C, K, B9 or folic acid) Y some substances with antioxidant action. But perhaps what stands out the most is its contribution of fiber and water, which makes it a good base for salads.

However, they are not as well known. its relaxing and sleep-inducing properties, although lettuce infusions have been used since ancient times to help sleep. And this is due to the latex that oozes when we cut a lettuce leaf or its trunk.

The main compound of this latex is lactucin, a bitter substance that forms a white crystalline solid and belongs to the group of sesquiterpene lactones. In 2006 a team of researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences tested its sedative and analgesic effects in mice.

Other Article 2012 research paper, published in Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease, concludes that lettuce has anxiolytic properties. When its extracts were tested on laboratory animals, their locomotor activity was reduced.

Although studies in humans are lacking, the study results suggest that the tradition of lettuce tea is scientifically based as well as empirical. But the most remarkable thing about lettuce tea is that it is simple to prepare; enough water and some leaves or a trunk.
