How to return to Windows 10 after installing Windows 11 | Digital Trends Spanish

Microsoft described the arrival of Windows 11 as the “beginning of a new era.” And it is that the operating system of the Californian company came with great news, such as a start button located in the center or the possibility of installing Android apps. But if after trying it you are still not convinced, maybe you should know how to return to Windows 10 after installing Windows 11.

Windows 11 is available from October 5, 2021 as a free update for Windows 10 users with computers that meet the requirements necessary to run the operating system.

But if after trying it you are not convinced, Microsoft offers two alternatives to return to Windows 10: a quick rollback during the first 10 days 11 or a subsequent “clean installation” process.

Regardless of the path you choose, you only have to consider two aspects:

  • The free upgrade to Windows 11 will only be extended until the end of 2022. Although on previous occasions Microsoft has extended these deadlines – such as the change from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 – nothing guarantees that this will happen again.
  • Windows 10 will receive support from Microsoft until October 14, 2025. It is unlikely that this period will be extended, so then you will necessarily have to change the operating system.

How to get back to Windows 10 in the first 10 days

Microsoft offers a process to roll back the Windows 11 installation up to 10 days after running it. This is the same period that those who go from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 have (from the anniversary version of 2016, since before the deadline was 30 days).

To carry it out, you must perform the following steps:

  • Run the panel from Setting pressing Win + I.
  • In the left panel, choose the tab
  • At the bottom, click Recovery.
  • Go to Recovery options and press the button Return.
  • In the pop-up window, choose the reason why you are reverting and press the button Next.
  • Windows will ask you if you want to check for updates. Make sure to select the “No, thank you” option.
  • Click on Next and then in Go back to a previous build.

Although your files will be safe, we recommend that you perform a backup your files before running the process. Also, you may need to reinstall some apps or make other settings.

If you missed the 10-day window for fast rollback, you need to do a clean install to get back to Windows 10.

  • Go to the Windows 10 page and download the media creation tool.
  • Run the file MediaCreationTool and accept the terms of service.
  • In the page You want to do?, Choose Update this PC now and then click Next. The download of the latest version of Windows 10 available will begin, the process will depend on the speed of your internet connection.
  • When the download is complete, click Next and you will be guided through the procedure to configure Windows 10.
  • When Windows 10 is ready, you will see a summary of your selections, which will be preserved during the update. Check the option Change what to keep and select Any.
  • Close all running applications and save all files. When you’re ready, click Install.
  • Windows 10 installation may take some time. Your computer will restart multiple times, just make sure not to shut it down until the process is complete.
