Microsoft offers several ways to split screen in windows 10 in multiple windows and get real work done, with better support for two or more higher-resolution monitors. Even Windows 11 does the same, with productivity-first features like Snap Layouts.

Split screen in Windows 10 with Snap
One of the most important contributions of the Windows 10 to split screen mode is snap-assist, which makes it easy for you to select an open application window when choosing how to arrange your screen. This is how you do it:
Step 1: choose the window you want to pin in the middle of the screen and drag it to the edge.
Step 2: If you have other windows or applications open, when you pin the chosen window you will be presented with several options to fill the other side of the screen. Click one and it will automatically dock next to the other window. If you don’t have them and the options disappear, drag the second window to the edge of the empty space.
Step 3: To resize the two windows, hover over the dividing line until it turns into two arrows. Click and hold the divider to adjust the two windows accordingly. However, there is a limit to how narrow a window can be.
Note: Does Snap Assist refuse to work or act strangely? Check your startup programs, the applications that start automatically when you log on to Windows. Sometimes these can interfere with Snap Assist, and disabling them will fix the problem.
Use the keyboard shortcut
Want an even faster way to do this? There’s a handy keyboard shortcut: In an active window, press and hold the Windows key, and then press the left or right arrow. This should dock the active window to the side you indicated. Then select another window to fill the second empty space.
If you want to expand a window to its full size again, just press the key Windows and the arrow to Above at the same time. If you accidentally reduce the screen to a quarter instead of going back to half screen, you can use the Windows key and the down arrows. Above or towards Below to expand it.
Split more than two windows
If you have a large or high-resolution monitor, you can take advantage of all that extra screen real estate by snapping up to four different windows using Corner Snap.
Step 1: drag your first window to the corner where you want to anchor it. To use the keyboard shortcut you can press the Windows key and the left or right arrow, followed by the up or down arrow.
Step 2: do the same with a second window on the same side to have two windows anchored on one side. You will then have the option to fill the empty space with a third one.
Step 3: To finish, drag the third window to the corner and then select another app to complete your four-window setup. With a 2020 update, this four-window layout changed; now all the windows you manipulated with Snap Assist act as one.
It may not sound like a big deal, but it’s very useful when you have to do something else, like open an additional application or a file while working with your four windows (they will stay together, waiting for you to come back).
How to disable and adjust settings
If Snap Assist is bothering you, you can easily turn it off.
Step 1: search Setting in the Start menu and click.
Step 2: select the icon System.
Step 3: click on Multitask in the menu on the left.
Step 4: click the selector displayed under the Snap Window to disable this feature.
If you prefer to disable specific Snap Assist features rather than disable everything, there are three settings you can disable. Just ignore Step 4 and uncheck the boxes next to your desired settings.
- When I pin a window, it automatically resizes to fill the available space.
- When I pin a window, it shows what I can pin next to it.
- When I resize a docked window, it simultaneously resizes any adjacent docked windows.

How to split your screen in Windows 11
Snap Layouts in Windows 11 is a new feature that helps boost productivity and split the screen in Microsoft’s new operating system. It’s a lot like Snap Assist in Windows 10, but it offers up to six different ways to tile a window.
Snap layouts adapt to the current screen size and orientation, including support for three windows side by side on large landscape screens and stacked top/bottom windows on portrait screens.
Step 1: press the keys Windows + Z on your keyboard, and you will see a pop-up box at the top right of the open window.
Step 2: Choose one of the ways to split the screen of your window. There will be a total of six that you can choose from. Windows will open the task switcher and suggest another of your open windows to choose from. Once you choose an open window, it will snap into place.
