How to use WhatsApp on an iPad | Digital Trends Spanish

Being the most popular messaging application in Latin America (and the world), one would imagine that WhatsApp would be available on practically any platform … and it is true, except for one notable exception: the iPad. Still, with the right guidance, there is always a way to do things. Here we explain how to use WhatsApp on an iPad so that you can take advantage of all its advantages on your Apple tablet.

If you are not yet familiar with WhatsApp, this Meta (ex-Facebook) application allows you to send messages to friends and make calls through a compatible device and an internet connection. All of this translates into significant savings on your phone bill.

WhatsApp is compatible with Android and iOS phones, Windows computers, macOS, and Linux, as well as watches, smart displays, and an extensive list of devices. However, you can’t use it on your iPad, at least natively.

But since WhatsApp implemented the possibility of using an account on multiple devices simultaneously (four devices, in addition to the phone with the main session), the possibilities of using the application on an iPad have increased significantly.

Because although in the Apple Store you will not find a specific application for the tablet –although in November 2021 it was rumored that the Meta company was working on the design of a version for this device–, in this guide we will explain how to use the web version of WhatsApp on your iPad.

You just have to consider that there are some limitations when using WhatsApp web on a tablet. For example, you will not receive pop-up notifications of your messages, although in general terms you will be able to count on the main functions.

If your iPad uses the iPadOS 13 or higher operating system, you just need to follow the following steps to activate WhatsApp Web:

  • Open Safari on your iPad.
  • Enter the address web.whatsapp.com.
  • The desktop version of WhatsApp Web will load automatically, where you will see the QR code to link your WhatsApp account.
  • Take your phone and open the WhatsApp application.
  • Select More options on Android or Settings on iOS.
  • Scan the code to pair the iPad tablet with your account.
  • The page should show the latest messages you have received through WhatsApp.

If your iPad has iOS 12 or lower

Although the process is similar, if you have an iPad tablet with iOS 12 or lower, you must follow the following steps to activate WhatsApp Web:

  • Open Safari on your iPad.
  • Enter the address web.whatsapp.com.
  • The home page of the WhatsApp site will load.
  • In your browser, press and hold the update button to the right of the website address. After a few seconds, choose Upload Desktop Site.
  • Now you will see the QR code to link your WhatsApp account.
  • Take your phone and open the WhatsApp application.
  • Select More options on Android or Settings on iOS.
  • Scan the code to pair the iPad tablet with your account.
  • The page should show the latest messages you have received through WhatsApp.
