IFF Panama celebrates an emotional opening gala in its 10th edition

The Ateneo de Ciudad del Saber dressed up to celebrate the opening of the tenth edition of the International Film Festival of Panama. National and international guests gathered and paraded on the Copa Airlines Blue Carpet to enjoy the national premiere of the film “Plaza Catedral” by Panamanian Director Abner Benaim

This meeting brought together great personalities of Latin American cinema, among them the American director Shaka King, the Dominican actress Judith Rodríguez, the Mexican director Michel Franco, the Dominican director Tatiana Fernández Geara, the Costa Rican actress Wendy Chinchilla, among other representatives of the film industry of the region, as well as personalities such as the first lady of the Republic Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, the Minister of Culture Carlos Aguilar and Mr. Pedro Heilbron CEO of Copa Airlines, allies of IFF Panama.

“At Copa Airlines we have supported the Panama International Film Festival since its inception, for many reasons, but especially because a country cannot fully develop without making an important contribution to culture. This is synonymous with economic development, tourism, entertainment, happiness, it is well-being and, in the world of culture, nothing goes as far and as deep as good cinema ”, said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines, congratulating the IFF team Panama on its tenth anniversary.

“IFF Panama has become a ‘country brand’ event, it is one of the activities that is part of the image that Panama offers abroad,” likewise, he added that currently and partly thanks to the Festival there are more than 30 Panamanian productions ready to be recorded, representing a large number in the cinematography of our country, said Carlos Aguilar, Minister of Culture of Panama.

For her part, the Executive Director of the IFF Panama Foundation Pituka Ortega Heilbron began her emotional speech by thanking her allies, the festival team and the foundation, the local and international press, the beloved audience of IFF Panama and the volunteers and invited guests, he also dedicated time to remember the filmmaker Luis Palomo, who at each opening gala from the audience anywhere in the darkness of the movie theater with his voice shouted a strong “I love you” impregnating the audience with vibrant energy .

Prior to the screening of “Casa Catedral”, a video was presented in post-mortem tribute to actor Fernando Xavier de Casta, who starred in the opening film with Mexican actress Ilse Salas. The night had the special participation of family members; Mrs. Cira de la Rosa, Fernando’s grandmother, thanked the entire team of the film for believing and making her grandson’s will and passion come true, recalling anecdotes and phrases from the young actor.

Panamanian director Abner Benaim thanked Pituka Ortega Heilbron for having selected Plaza Catedral to open this edition and introduced the international guest Ilse Salas, protagonist of Plaza Catedral, who recalled how important cinema is to the world: “Cinema is memory, it is a blessing that cinema exists as a memory of our life “
