The agricultural, industrial, folk, craft and tourist fair of San Sebastian de Ocú, in the province of Herrera, was inaugurated on the night of this Wednesday, January 19, by the Vice Minister of Agricultural Development, Carlo Rognoni, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen.
The deputy minister of the Mida was accompanied in the traditional ribbon cutting, the deputy and president of the Board of Trustees of the Fair, Marcos Castillero and the queen of the 61st edition, Miss Karol Patricia Gil Pimentel, who to the sound of a murga toured the different stands, including those from the agricultural sector.
This fair event, which will last until Monday, January 24, has become a traditional activity for the people of Herrera, which from this Wednesday will receive thousands of visitors, who will have the opportunity to observe the innovations of the agricultural sector, learn about its work, its products and technological advances.
After the official hoisting of the Fair’s flag, Miss Karol was crowned; Before this act, the religious invocation was made, then the deputy and president of the Board of Trustees of the Fair, Castillero, was in charge of giving the words of welcome to the event, and the vice minister, Rognoni, addressed those present.
Rognoni thanked for the invitation and highlighted the importance of these fair events to boost the economy of this region of the country, always keeping biosecurity measures to avoid coronavirus infections.
“Herreranos are a strength in national production, which contributes to the country’s food security. Herrera occupies an important place in the production of crops within the group of roots and tubers such as cassava, yams, otoe and ñampí, which contribute with an important contribution to the national economy in the acquisition of goods and services”, he added.
During the ceremony, Jorge Luis Guerra Solis, a children’s flag bearer, was handed the flag for the children’s horse parade, which takes place this Friday. In addition, legal status was granted to a Chepo Producers Association.
