Instagram suffers a massive failure and blocks user accounts from all over the world

Instagram has suffered a failure this Monday around 2:00 p.m. that has caused users from all over the world to lose access to their accounts. The platform has notified them that it is suspending their profiles for violating its terms of use for no apparent reason. The company has not yet explained the reasons for the failure and whether these users will be able to recover their accounts, although it acknowledges that it is an error.

“We are aware that some of you are having trouble accessing your Instagram account. We are investigating and apologize for the inconvenience,” tweeted the official Instagram account on Twitter.

Blocked users have received a notification that Instagram has suspended their account for violating their rules. “You have 30 days left to express your disagreement with this decision,” the message explains: “If we cannot confirm your account, it will be permanently disabled.” Blocked accounts are not visible to other members of the social network and their owners cannot access the published content either.

Users who have tried to appeal the decision have been met with a blank page. After a few moments, Instagram reported that the appeal process is “not available.”

The service failure has also been collected by the specialized website Downdetector, which as of 2:00 p.m. has begun to collect a large number of user reports reporting problems in the Instagram app. It is the second failure in a few days of a social network owned by Meta, since WhatsApp also suffered a global service outage for several hours on October 25.
