Instagram wants to stop sending nudes by DM | Digital Trends Spanish

Instagram is looking to add more layers of protection to its users, so it is about to implement a feature to block naked that can be sent by direct messages (DM).

The developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Pulazzi discovered evidence of the feature.

  • Instagram is working on nudity protection for chats
  • The technology on your device covers photos that may contain nudity in chats. Instagram CANNOT access photos.
  • Choose to view photos or not. Photos will remain covered unless you choose to view them.
  • Get security tips. Learn about ways to stay safe if you interact with sensitive photos.
  • Turn the update on or off at any time in your Settings.

He posted a screenshot of the screen users will see when invited to activate the feature.

Instagram owner Meta confirmed to TheVerge that the feature is under development.

“Meta says that optional user controls, which are still in the early stages of development, will help protect people from nude photos as well as other spam.”

The tech giant likened these controls to its “Hidden Words” feature, which allows users to automatically filter direct message requests that contain offensive content.

A study from last year found that 43% of American women had experienced online abuse, with a third of them reporting sexual harassment: “Young women are particularly likely to have experienced sexual harassment online. 33% of women under 35 say they have been sexually harassed online, while 11% of men under 35 say the same.
