Intuition and tradition make María Elena Higueruelo the National Prize for Young Poetry 2021

María Elena Higueruelo Illana has been awarded the ‘Miguel Hernández’ National Young Poetry Prize, corresponding to 2021, for her work Los Días Eternos (Rialp, 2020). The award, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, is endowed with 20,000 euros.

The jury has chosen this work “for making a very personal tribute to memory and the effects of the passage of time, with a great balance and mastery of the poetic tradition”. In addition, it highlights that The eternal days It has “unusual elements in poetry: a very wise mix in its proportions between the deep thought of logic and the letting flow of the lyricism proper to intuition.”

María Elena Higueruelo (Torredonjimeno, Jaén, 1994) is a graduate in Mathematics and a student of Comparative Literatures. He has published the books of poems Water and thirst (Hiperión, 2015), with which he won the XVIII Antonio Carvajal Young Poetry Prize and The eternal days (Rialp, 2020) for which he obtained the Adonáis Poetry Award.

It has been included in the anthology To be born in another time (Renacimiento, 2016) and has collaborated in literary magazines and publications such as Piedra del Molino, Estación Poesía and Maremágnum, among others.
