Izquierda Unida has decided to separate the deputy Miguel Ángel Bustamante after hearing a complaint from his partner for ill-treatment. “Given the seriousness of the information that appeared in the press, we have proceeded to immediately suspend deputy Miguel Ángel Bustamante from militancy,” they reported in a message on their social networks.
This Friday, the newspaper El Mundo has published that Bustamante had been denounced on the 24th by his wife “for a crime of gender violence and abuse in the family, with injuries, coercion, threats.” The complaint, says the newspaper, was filed in the Family and Women’s Unit and from there it went to the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Écija, in Seville, from where it was sent to the Supreme Court, when the deputy was appraised .
IU has assured that “they continue to collect” new information to be able to “study next measures.”
After the movement of suspension of militancy carried out by the party, its secretary of Organization, Ismael González, has explained that it has been agreed in an extraordinary meeting of the federal collegiate, by virtue of article 28 of the statutes. “Miguel Ángel Bustamante has been provisionally suspended from militancy, the vote has been unanimously”, he has broken down.
The deputy, for his part, has denied the information published by El Mundo about him. “I have not received any notification from the Court”, he said in a statement on social networks, in which he assured that the news had appeared in the press “before” he was aware “giving rise to non-pecuniary damage” .
“I totally deny what was published in the news, I have not thrown a punch in my life,” he indicated. According to El Mundo, the medical part of Bustamante’s partner pointed out that he “had suffered an injury to the inner region of the upper lip and ecchymosis on the lower lip.”
Bustamante has also assured that he has been the one who has requested the precautionary suspension of militancy in PCE and IU, “to try not to harm them politically.”
