James Caan reveals he improvised this scene from The Godfather | Digital Trends Spanish

The Godfather (1972) is one of the most popular films in history. The film directed by Francis Ford Coppola has achieved great recognition and a significant number of followers, which have made it a cult object.

However, many are unaware that some of the final scenes were not part of the original script and were improvised by the cast.

James Caan, for example, who played Santino “Sonny” Corleone, recently acknowledged that one of his most famous scenes in the film was improvised.

In an interview with Ben Mankiewicz, the Oscar-nominated actor recounted that the opening scene of the iconic film’s wedding, where an annoying Sonny smashes an FBI agent’s camera and then throws it to the ground, was not in the script.

“I grabbed that camera and smashed it. Then I realized that I had done wrong, “he acknowledged.

The actor also explained that he was inspired by comedian Don Rickles to cast his character as Sonny. “It was not imitating Don Rickles. It was having that drive, that thing, you know? I got caught up in it. “

Caan is 81 years old and recognizes that he is still waiting to do another great role like in The Godfather. “I want to do a good job,” he said.

“I’m frustrated. I would love to do something of a real character. I can’t take it easy. I like to work. I have more fun when I work and laugh a lot. And they also make me respect, sometimes ”.
