Jean-Marc Vallée, director of ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and ‘Big Little Lies’, dies at 58

Canadian director and producer Jean-Marc Vallée died this weekend at the age of 58 in Quebec City, as confirmed by his representation agency.

Vallée won an Emmy for directing “Big Little Lies,” an HBO series starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley. His drama “Dallas Buyers Club,” starring Matthew McConaughey, won three Oscars – best leading actor, best supporting actor and makeup – and was nominated in three other categories (film, editing and screenplay). Vallee, acclaimed for his naturalistic style, is also responsible for directing the eight episodes of the series ‘Open Wounds’, released in 2018.

Jean-Marc Valleé made his debut in the direction of feature films with the film Liste Noire (1995) and ten years later he directed CRAZY, an international phenomenon premiered in more than fifty countries and awarded with numerous awards. In 2009, ‘Queen Victoria’, produced by Graham King and Martin Scorsese, won the Oscar for Best Costume Design and was nominated for Best Art Direction and Best Makeup.
