A few days before the start of the 69th edition of the San Sebastián Festival, the festival team and its director José Luis Rebordinos have officially presented the event at a press conference in which they have announced the celebrities who will be present at the festival.

This edition of the festival, which will be held from Friday 17 to Saturday 25 September in Donostia, will be attended by actors and actresses such as Javier Bardem, Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Emmanuelle Devos, Dolores Fonzi, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Louis Garrel, Vincent Lindon, Noémie Merlant, Clarke Peters, Raphael, Simon Rex, Stanley Tucci or María Valverde.
During the presentation, Rebordinos insisted that the festival will be safe in health terms, since “the measures adopted last year will be repeated with the difference that there will be more of us.” In this edition, Donostia Zinemaldia wants to grow and once again reach the attendance and presence figures of years before the pandemic. “There will be more presence of the films of the 69th edition and there will be more accredited people, thanks also to vaccines and the evolution of the health situation,” said the director of the festival.
Likewise, some of the most relevant directors of contemporary cinematography will travel to San Sebastián to present their films, such as the filmmakers of the Official Section Laurent Cantet (Arthur Rambo), Lucile Hadzihalilovic (Earwig) or Claire Simon (I Want to Talk about Duras).
Of the films selected in Perlak, the winner of the Palme d’Or, Julia Ducournau (with Titane), Director of Carol, Todd Haynes, who will present the documentary The Velvet Underground and the director of The Florida Project, Sean Baker, who will do the same with Red Rocket.
Despite the mobility problems derived from the pandemic, there will also be Asian representation such as the Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, who participates in Perlak twice: Guzen to Sozo / Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy (The wheel of fortune and fantasy) and Drive My Car.
San Sebastián will also receive the visit of renowned filmmakers, selected in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section as Gaspar Noé (Vortex) and also that of young directors who excel with their first or second film such as Alina Grigore (Blue moon), or Laura Wandel (Playground), who received the Fipresci Prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival and will give a master class at Nest.
The festival has taken advantage of the appointment with the media to announce that on the last day, September 25, they will screen a surprise film. Other years, titles like the controversy Joker by Todd Phillips could be seen like this at the festival.
