The president of United States, Joe Biden, announced this Friday that it will send US troops to the border with Ukraine due to the upturn in tensions in recent months, which has raised fears of the outbreak of a conflict in the country.

“I am going to move American troops to NATO countries of Europe in the short term«, he said from the White House office to journalists at Andrews Air Force Base upon returning from a trip to Pittsburgh, according to a reporter from ‘The Washington Post’ through from the White House press office

Shortly before the announcement, the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, has transferred this Friday to Russia Washington’s intention to avoid a conflict and had offered “a way out of the crisis”, which involves withdrawing its own troops from the border with Ukraine.

“There is no reason for this situation to become a conflict,” Austin said at a press conference held at the Pentagon, from where he assured that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has the de-escalation in his hands. “You can order your troops to stand down. You can choose dialogue and diplomacy.”

For his part, before this announcement by the president, the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, had made it known that there were no plans to send troops to Ukraine, despite the fact that this week it was confirmed from Washington that some 8,500 soldiers had been placed on “high alert” for a possible deployment in the area.

The spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council, Emily Horne, already indicated that Biden had warned that there was a “clear possibility« that Russia could launch an invasion of Ukraine during the month of February.

“President Biden has said that there is a distinct possibility that the Russians invade Ukraine in February“, he pointed out through his account on the social network Twitter, before adding that the president »has said this publicly and we have been warning about it for months«.
