The CEO of the Enel Group, Francesco Starace, said that the country must improve interconnection with border countries, because it can become a very important energy hub worldwide.
Fernández gave the green light to both officials to move forward with the work by instructing the Ministry of Energy and IEASA to move forward with the call for public bids.
The development of the gas pipeline seeks to achieve an increase in transport capacity of 24 million cubic meters per day, which is expected to generate foreign exchange savings of US $ 1,465 million per year and a tax savings of US $ 1,060 million. by substituting imports of LNG and Gas Oil, according to official figures.
The first stage of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline project and the Tranport.Ar National Production Gas Pipeline System will include the start-up of construction works that go from Tratayen and Salliqueló, and between Mercedes and Cardales. In addition, it will involve the expansion of the NEUBA II Gas Pipeline (Ordoqui), the construction of the final sections in AMBA South and North, the reversal of the North Gas Pipeline in its stages I and II, and the expansion of the Central West Gas Pipeline.
As for the second stage, it will contemplate the construction of the section between Salliqueló and San Jerónimo of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline, the completion of the reversal of the North Gas Pipeline, the expansion of the GNEA transport capacity, the GNEA connection to San Jerónimo and Loops, and increased Compression in Aldea Brasilera (Gasoducto Entrerriano).
During the meeting, the Secretary of Energy provided the president with recent figures on the evolution of the Gas.Ar Plan and its exponential growth. As he highlighted, production grew in such a way that, if there were no changes, the transport system could be saturated.
That is why Martínez stressed the need to give way to the second stage of the project, once the first is finished. According to him, the completion of the second section will increase transport capacity by 44 million cubic meters per day. This would allow the domestic demand to be fully supplied with local gas, so the export capacity could be boosted.
During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on the fact that given the potential of Vaca Muerta it is necessary to build a new gas pipeline system. This will allow the development of Argentine gas production to the maximum to advance in the substitution of the expensive imports that the country is forced to carry out in order to complete the supply of domestic demand.
