Kia just unveiled the plug-in hybrid version of its Sportage compact crossover, which has received an extensive facelift for 2023. The new 2023 Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid It will go on sale in the United States during the third quarter of 2022 to join the long list of electrified vehicles from the Korean manufacturer.
The powertrain of the new Kia Sportage PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is comprised of a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that generates 177 horsepower and an electric motor that is more powerful and powered by a larger battery than the regular hybrid variant of the model. According to Kia, the Sportage PHEV has a respectable electric range of 32 miles per battery charge, but the manufacturer did not reveal the total powertrain figure or advance fuel consumption estimates.
The 32 miles of electric range is achieved after a charging session of approximately 2 hours on a level 2 charger. In any case, the plug-in Sportage will feature a high-efficiency 7.2 kW on-board charger.
The Sportage Plug-in Hybrid is visually similar to other models in the Sportage lineup, but comes standard with the X-Line Appearance Package that includes 19-inch wheels, satin chrome bumpers, mirror caps, the roof rack and the window frames in glossy black.
