Kremlin says Russia does not use energy resources as a weapon

MOSCOW — Russia does not use its oil and gas as a weapon, a Kremlin spokesman said on Friday in response to comments by a US official.

President Joe Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Thursday that “Russia has a history of using energy as a tool of coercion, as a political weapon.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow disagreed with those comments.

“We are convinced that this is a wrong assessment,” Peskov told a daily conference call with reporters.

He said it was the United States which, by imposing sanctions, threatened to contribute to imbalances on the European energy market. (Reporting by Gleb Stolyarov Vladimir Soldatkin; editing Philippa Fletcher)
