Spain extends until April 30 the temporary restriction of non-essential travel from third countries to the EU

The Official State Gazette (BOE) this Tuesday includes the extension until next April 30 of the temporary restriction of non-essential travel from third countries to the European Union and associated Schengen countries for reasons of public order and public health on the occasion of the health crisis caused by COVID-19.

As Recommendation (EU) 2020/912 of the Council, of June 30, which established a list of third countries whose residents were exempt from travel restrictions to the European Union, has not changed, the effects of the Order INT/657/2020 that ends on March 31. All this, without prejudice to the possibility of modifying any of its articles before that period if circumstances change.

The Council Recommendation has been modified on successive occasions to adapt the list of third countries to the epidemiological circumstances or to make certain adjustments to the criteria applied. However, the list remains unchanged, pending its possible removal from May.

These modifications are applied in Spain through Order INT/657/2020, of July 17, which modifies the criteria for the application of a temporary restriction on non-essential travel from third countries to the European Union and Schengen associated countries by reasons of public order and public health due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19, with its successive extensions and modifications.

Thus, this Order will take effect from 12:00 a.m. on July 22, 2020 until 12:00 a.m. on April 30, 2022, without prejudice to its eventual modification to respond to a change in circumstances or new recommendations in the European Union. .
