The president of the Parliament, Laura Borràs, has participated this Saturday in a pro-independence rally prohibited by the Department of the Interior of the Generalitat. The second authority of Catalonia has joined hundreds of people who have cut Meridiana avenue, in a new day of this protest that has been carried out daily since October 2019 and to which the Pere Aragonès Executive has withdrawn the permit due to the inconvenience that causes the neighbors.

Summoned by Meridiana Resisteix, the organization that manifests itself daily on this Barcelona road axis, the concentrations have occupied the road punctually at 8:00 p.m. and have prevented the circulation of vehicles. Songs have been heard in favor of independence, of “freedom” and calling for the resignation of the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès. The president of the ANC, Elisenda Paluzie, and the deputy of Junts Francesc de Dalmasses have also attended the rally.
The act has been done despite the strong police presence. In fact, there have been moments of tension between the Mossos d’Esquadra agents and some demonstrators when they have been asked to leave the place. There have also been pushes, according to the ACN agency.
The Meridiana courts began in October 2019 as a response to the Supreme Court ruling on 1-O and since then they have evolved: they began as large concentrations and, as the days went by, they now brought together a few dozen people .
The protest has managed to cut off one of the main access roads to the city on a daily basis and, after hundreds of days of celebration, had generated complaints from neighbors and citizens due to its effects on traffic and public transport.
The leader of Ciudadanos in Catalonia, Carlos Carrizosa, has called for Borràs to resign. “Public officials who break the law are unable to require citizens to comply with it,” he said on his Twitter account.
