After announcing his departure as CEO of Twitter this Thursday, May 11tech mogul Elon Musk, has chosen Linda Yaccarino as his successor in the job.
Yaccarino is an American media executive currently serving as President and Global Head of Advertising and Partnerships at NBCUniversal.
In that role, he was responsible for overseeing ad sales, marketing, and research for all NBCUniversal platforms, including broadcast, cable, digital, mobile, and streaming. He also led advertising innovation initiatives and strategic agreements with external partners. Prior to joining NBCUniversal in 2011, Yacarino was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Turner Entertainment Ad Sales and Marketing. She has been recognized as one of the most influential women in business by various publications, including Fortune, Adweek, and The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!” Musk tweeted. She said that she will “mainly focus on business operations, while I will focus on product design and new technologies.”
He added: “I’m looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the app of everything.”
Yaccarino and Musk sat together in a masterful interview in a marketing conference in Florida in mid-April. During the conversation, the two discussed the role marketers play in the future of Twitter, as well as their position in the cultural conversation.
On Friday, NBCUniversal said Yaccarino would leave the company, effective immediately, and Mark Marshall, the current president of ad sales and client partnerships, would become interim president of the company’s advertising and partnerships group.
