Listen to the eerie sound of the Earth’s magnetic field | Digital Trends Spanish

The function of Earth’s magnetic field It is essential, since without its protection, cosmic radiation and solar winds would enter. And now a group of scientists from the Technical University of Denmark have managed to convert magnetic signals to sound measured by the Swarm satellite European Space Agency (THIS).

To listen to the magnetic field, scientists have turned to ESA’s trio of Swarm satellites, launched in 2013, which are used precisely to understand how this field is generated. ‘The team used data from ESA’s Swarm satellites, as well as other sources, and used these magnetic signals to manipulate and control a sonic representation of the core field. The project has been, without a doubt, a gratifying exercise in the union between art and science«, explains Klaus Nielsen, musician and collaborator of the project.

And this is what it sounds like:

Sound is about the magnetic field generated by the Earth’s core and its interaction with a solar storm.

“The intention, of course, is not to scare people: it is a bizarre form of remind us that the magnetic field exists and that, although its noise is a bit disconcerting, the existence of life on Earth depends on it, ”indicates the ESA.
