The National Commission for Human Rights (CNDH) addressed a recommendation to the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) to carry out a new investigation in the case of Mario Aburto, murderer of Luis Donaldo Colosio.
According to the CNDH, the authorities who intervened in the detention committed acts of torture against him.
Mario Aburto was arrested on March 23, 1994 in Lomas Taurinas, Tijuana, Baja California, at the end of a political proselytizing event in which the then candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Luis Donaldo Colosio, was wounded by gun shots. of fire, dying hours later.
On that occasion, Aburto was transferred as a defendant to the Federal Public Ministry Agency of the then Attorney General’s Office (PGR) of that city and, on March 25, 1994, he entered the facilities of Cefereso 1 “Altiplano ”In Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico.
Subsequently, he has been admitted to Federal Centers for Social Readaptation of different entities and since October 21, 2020 he has been at Cefereso 12 “CPS-Guanajuato”, located in the municipality of Ocampo.
Acts of torture and omission by doctors
After an investigation, the CNDH determined that elements of the then Federal Judicial Police, as well as Agents of the Federal Public Ministry who intervened in the arrest, first ministerial proceedings and in the transfer of Aburto to the Cefereso facilities, they incurred acts of torture against him.
The doctors who intervened in the events allegedly acted irregularly by trying to hide or tolerate said acts. It was also proven that medical personnel and custodians of said detention center committed acts of torture.
After more than 20 years, Mario Aburto continues as the sole culprit and mastermind of the murder of candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio.
