Martin Lewis: Switch your default Visa credit card on Amazon now and get up to £20 back

If your Visa credit card is your default method of payment on Amazon, you can get Amazon to pay you

On the back of news that Amazon will stop accepting UK-issued Visa credit cards in January 2022, Martin explains how you can claim up to £20 as a result.

In last night’s The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, he said: “If Visa credit is your default method of payment at the moment, there’s a way to get Amazon to pay you.

“[Amazon] will give you £10, or £20 if you’re a Prime member. If you click the email link you’ve had about this or the homepage banner and you switch to a Visa debit, Amex, Mastercard credit or debit card you’ ll get that money.”

Martin recommends most people affected switch to using a debit card

Martin said: “The least taxing route for most would be to switch to your bank’s debit card and only use a credit card if you won’t borrow to pay for your purchases.”

If you opt to use another credit card as your primary Amazon payment method remember to always make sure you can afford to pay off your bill in full.

But if you’re thinking of switching credit cards as a result, there are plenty of reward cards available

Martin explained that Amex’s fee-free credit card, Platinum Cashback, tops the charts and offers customers up to 5% cashback during the first three months of ownership. You can check your eligibility for the Platinum Cashback card using our Eligibility Calculator.

The best rewards Mastercard on offer is currently Amazon’s Platinum card, which offers customers £40 on acceptance. M&S Bank, Sainsbury’s Bank, John Lewis and Tesco also offer their own reward credit cards, which may be better suited to your shopping habits.
