The Mexican authorities are clear in this regard: “Introducing or extracting from the country more than $10,000 dollars from the United States of America or its equivalent in other currencies is not a crime. Not declaring it is.”

United States Customs
In the case of US citizens who want to travel to Mexico, there are some guidelines that they should consider well before packing their bags.
It highlights that all items purchased in Mexico must be declared, Cuban cigars are prohibited and it is necessary to consult with the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) about the importation of any medicine before crossing Mexico, a government agency that also has a zero tolerance policy with illegal drugs.
About agricultural products
- Most fruits are prohibited (with the exception of oranges and apples).
- You cannot take fruit or meat from the United States to Mexico.
- Before going to Mexico it is necessary to ask a CBP officer for a list of items that it is possible to bring back.
- Fines of $50 to $1,000 may apply if agricultural items are not declared.
Border between Mexico and USA
Mexico and the United States share a 3,175 km border, with 55 active ports of entry. In this area, 10 states come together, four from the nation led by Joe Biden and six from the country led by Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
According to the United States Department of State, the scope of relations between the two governments represents some $1.7 billion of round-trip trade.
