Microsoft (NASDAQ:) Crop. is going to acquire gaming giant Activision Blizzard Inc (NASDAQ:). for $69 billion, as part of a move to boost its game plans and Metaverse.

Activision Blizzard is home to a long list of iconic game franchises, including Call of Duty, Overwatch, Candy Crush, World of Warcraft, and Tony Hawk’s Pro-Skater. Following the deal, its games will be added to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service, which has 25 million subscribers.

According to Microsoft’s announcement on January 18, the company will acquire Activision Blizzard for $95 per share, at a valuation of $68.7 billion. The deal will close in fiscal 2023 and will see Microsoft become the third-largest video game company in terms of revenue, behind Tencent (HK:), owner of Riot Games, and Sony (T:), developer of video games.
