More than 20,000 tourists visit the protected areas of Chiriquí


One year after the gradual reopening of access to protected areas, at the national level, the Ministry of the Environment (MiAmbiente) in the province of Chiriquí reports the entry of 20,298 tourists to the four protected areas of the province, during 2021.

The Volcán Barú National Park (PNVB) is the one that has reported the largest number of visits with 9,616 tourists, followed by PGulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park (PNMGCh) with 7.95 visitors, details the MiAmbiente press release.

While at La Amistad International Park (PILA) entered 1,251 people and La Barqueta Agrícola Wildlife Refuge (RVSLB), 2,336 visitors.

For reasons of improvements in the structures and with the aim of guarantee the safety of visitors, the Sendero Los Quetzales, in the PNVB, is maintained with suspended access.

MiAmbiente reiterated that biosecurity measures must be followed at all times issued by the health authorities in which the following stand out: the mandatory use of a mask, carrying antibacterial gel or alcohol, complying with social distancing and respecting the established entry times for visiting sites and carrying capacities.
