These are some true first impressions, since I just took the Motorola Edge 40 Pro out of its box, the new high-end from the Chicago firm that has a spectacular design. I will comment only the most relevant aspects of the unit, waiting for a full review in the near future.
The mobile boasts a solid structure (polished aluminum frame), with a matte finish on its glass cover that does repel fingerprints. The triple camera module is also located on the back, which is not discreet at all, although it gives continuity to the curves present at the edges of the smartphone.
Motorola decided to place all the buttons, volume and power, on the right side: access to them is easy. To unlock the unit, people must resort to the sensor built into the display, which responds efficiently.
At the base of the structure are the SIM card slot, the USB-C charging port and a stereo audio channel (the other is at the top of the device).
In general terms, the design of the Edge 40 Pro combines resistance, elegance, and functionality in the same package, which is what more than one user asks for when purchasing a cell phone at the top of the market.
Up to 165 Hz refresh rate
The screen is another of the elements that stands out in the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, not only because of its technology, but also because of its finish (Corning Gorilla Glass Victus). As with other members of the Edge series, the edges are curved, although the image does not extend to where the curves end, which does favor the multimedia experience.
The display has a size of 6.67 inches and Full HD + resolution, as well as an update rate of up to 165 Hz (in the general configuration it is possible to choose this value, in addition to others if you want a longer battery life), which means which updates its image 165 times in a second.
Once I was able to play a few clips, the smooth graphics performance and really vivid colors stand out. This is also replicated, for example, in the series Formula 1: Drive to Survivein which the moments of a lot of action are not few.
Having tested other Edge series screens, I can say that the Edge 40 Pro is one of the best so far, if not the best. It is worth saying that its dimensions also contribute so that it can be manipulated with one hand.
Ready for demanding apps
The new member of the Edge family incorporates the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (GPU with 25 percent higher performance compared to its predecessor) and 12 GB RAM (LPDDR5X). They are state-of-the-art elements that promise more than optimal performance on any mobile platform.
Already in practice, in the short time that I was able to test the unit for these first impressions, the phone “does not hurt at all”, to put it in simple terms: it runs applications quickly, navigation through the general interface is fluid and the Web content deployment is instant. You can not ask for more!
Of course, contributing to the good response is the fact that the phone is compatible with 5G and up to Wi-Fi 7, which ensures seamless downloading both at home and on the go.
Regarding its autonomy, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro includes a 4,600 mAh battery, which can be enough for a whole day. However, what is surprising in this section is that the firm equipped the mobile with a 125 W fast charge: it will be ready in about 35 minutes, according to information shared by the manufacturer. For when you need to charge it without cables, this is 15 W.
other aspects
For the complete review, I will go into depth the results of the triple camera —two of 50 MP and a special one for 12 MP portraits—, another element that Motorola presumes to have improved significantly, and everything related to Ready For, the platform that allows use your phone as a mobile console, desktop computer, or game console on a larger screen.
For now, the outstanding specifications of the unit are complemented by Android 13, Dolby Vision (image) and Dolby Audio (sound) certifications, resistance to water and dust (IP68 classification), 60 MP selfie camera, 256 GB storage , 8K video recording and a rich set of security features such as Secure folder and Network protection.
By the way, the purchase package prepared by Motorola for customers in Mexico includes a remote control for Ready For, a transparent case and, of course, the wall charger.
first conclusions
When I first got acquainted with the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, I was really satisfied with both its elegant design and the visual response of the screen, especially in high-action multimedia content.
Likewise, the additional customization functions provided by the manufacturer do not feel too much. On the contrary, they work in favor of the Android 13 operating system, to make it a little more intuitive.
And I would not like to finish without mentioning the price of the Edge 40 Pro for Mexico: 25,999 pesos, which is why it is on a par with the most expensive high-end in the local market, such as the iPhone 14 Pro.
The question remains in the air: does the new Motorola cell phone have enough for a user to choose it over an option from the Californian brand? It would be unfair to answer it on these first impressions.
