National Animal Welfare Program is created to strengthen the export process of beef to the United States.

To strengthen the process to be able to export beef to the United States, the Minister of Agricultural Development, Augusto Valderrama, signed an Executive Decree to create in Panama, the National Animal Welfare Program.

This Executive Decree complements the initiatives of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (Mida) to resume beef exports to the United States, after announcing last May, that Panama has a first world laboratory, with the highest international standards, to be able to perform 22 analytical tests necessary to export meat and meat products to US markets.

The signing of this decree creates the Animal Welfare Program, a requirement established by the United States. and international organizations for the export of beef, an issue of utmost importance in Panama, so that the necessary certification is achieved to fulfill this Panamanian aspiration, highlights the Mida press release.

We are making a great effort, together with the Ministry of Health, andto the fact that in Panama there was no regulation on animal welfare ”, highlighted Concepción Santos Sanjur, National Director of Animal Health.

Santos Sanjur said that The purpose of the program is to give adequate and humanitarian compliance to the beef production chain. This Decree must also be signed by President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen and published in the Official Gazette.

The holder of the Mida portfolio was accompanied by his work team and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Health, Ivette Berrío.
