Criticism of anti-vaccines reached the main music streaming service. Musician and songwriter Neil Young demanded that Spotify remove all his music from the catalog due to the addition of the podcast The Joe Rogan Experience.
It is a controversial program where conspiracy theories related to COVID-19 are spread, in addition to recommending children and young people not to be vaccinated against the disease.
“I want you to let Spotify know immediately today that I want all my music off their platform. They can have Rogan or Young. Not to both”, said the Canadian through a letter shared by his team of managers.
For now, the platform has not referred to this controversy. In fact, Joe Rogan’s space is still available, including an episode where he interviews Dr. Robert Malone, who was suspended from Twitter for spreading false information about the pandemic and comparing health measures to the Holocaust.
The musician is not alone in this quest. A few weeks ago, a group of 270 doctors sent a signed letter to Spotify warning about Joe Rogan and the risk of spreading his unsupported theories.
According to professionals, this type of theory damages public trust in scientific research and health recommendations.
Former athlete Joe Rogan was hired in 2020 by Spotify for a figure close to 100 million dollars. It is estimated that his podcast is currently heard by eleven million people, with an average age of 24 years.
It should be remembered that in 2015, Neil Young already withdrew his songs from the platform due to the poor sound quality offered by the service.
