No fingers, no voice: this keyboard obeys facial gestures | Digital Trends Spanish

Based on image recognition technology and Morse code, a programmer devised a tool for writing without contact or voice commands. CheekyKeys is a computer interface that recreates a keyboard that obeys gaze and facial gestures.

Posted on the YouTube channel Everything Is Hacked, the tool was designed for those people who face certain limitations. In the particular case of its creator, he had to carry his newborn baby and avoid noise so as not to wake him up.

To capture facial expressions, he tried a Python script that used OpenCV and Dlib. In this way, he managed to track the movements of the eyes and write the letter x every time he detected a blink.

However, the movement of the eyes could make the user uncomfortable, the site reported. hackster.io. For the same reason, the youtuber decided to use his mouth and eyebrows.

He also used Google’s machine learning project, MediaPipe, because a beard or glasses could affect the results. “A quick change in the Python script caused the model to classify a video frame, capture gestures, and motivate virtual keystrokes,” he detailed.
