Original cast of Star Trek: fights, insanity and death | Digital Trends Spanish

Star Trek is one of the most popular series in history and one of the most important productions of the science fiction genre.

The series was released in 1966. In fact, on a day like today, September 8, its first episode aired, and it continued on the air until 1969.

It ran for three seasons and later became known as Star Trek: The Original Series to differentiate it from the audiovisual products that emerged from the first version.

After its final season ended, the main actors who starred in it maintained a close relationship of camaraderie. However, with the passage of time, this link grew cold and controversies marked this group of actors.

Probably, the friendly relationship between William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk) and Leonard Nimoy (Spock), was the best representation of the close bond between the actors in the cast.

They were friends since 1969, however, in 2014, they both stopped talking.

In an interview with The Guardian, Shatner said he did not know the causes of the estrangement, but pointed out that it originated after his former partner refused to participate in a documentary that he himself was filming.

“After all these years, after the close bond we formed, what could I have done so irremediably that he couldn’t even tell me? I thought he was joking when he told me he didn’t want to participate, ”said the actor.

Of course, the question remained a mystery, since Nimoy passed away in 2015 due to a lung disease. The interpreter thus joined other cast actors who had already departed, such as Deforest Kelly (Leonard McCoy), who died in 1999 from stomach cancer, and James Doohan (Montgomery Scott), who died from complications of pulmonary fibrosis in 2005.

Of those who are still alive, Shatner is the one who has had the most successful career, frequently headlining events related to Star trek.

For his part, George Takei (Sulu), has also achieved notoriety, but off the screen, as he has become a respected advocate for sexual minorities.

Walter Koening (Pavel Chekov) has been part of several films in the universe of Star trek and is currently carrying out important humanitarian work visiting Burmese refugee camps in Thailand.

Finally, Nichelle Nichols (Uhura), worked on a NASA project, but has been linked to a number of controversies.

She was arrested for being found carrying methamphetamine and in 2019 she was recorded while arguing aggressively with her son due to her heritage. “You’re trying to get rid of me,” yelled the actress who currently suffers from dementia.
