EThe Ministry of Health reported that this Wednesday, October 20, the vaccination day begins of third booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine, for adults over 55 years of age, bedridden patients, people in nursing homes and homes, of the San Miguelito district (circuit 8-6), following the strategy of Operation PanavaC-19 .
For people 55 years and older, four educational centers have been set up in San Miguelito so that they come to get this booster dose: Santiago De La Guardia, Pedro J. Ameglio, Carlos A. Mendoza and José Domingo Espinar schools.
He also announced that a shipment with 243,880 AstraZeneca vaccines will be donated by the government of Panama to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The vaccines should be sent in the next few days to PAHO, which will organize the logistics and take care of the costs of the transfer to Nicaragua.
The report released by the Minsa indicates that it is applying third doses to immunosuppressed patients: dialysis and peritoneal dialysis, HIV patients, cancer, prolonged corticosteroid treatment, patients over 60 years of age, transplant patients, immunosuppressant treatment, stem cell transplants, nephropathies, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome and DiGeorge syndrome.
In addition, third booster doses are being applied to doctors, nurses and all health personnel; officials of the security estates; adults over 55, bedridden patients, people in nursing homes and homes.
TIt will also be carrying out an itinerant vaccination day in the Ngäbe Buglé region (circuit 12-1) from Wednesday, October 20.
The report of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) indicates that to date a 76.4% of the target population that can receive the vaccine, have already complied with the complete immunization schedule against Covid-19.
In Panama they have been applied 5,704,382 vaccines against Covid-19, according to the EPI report.
Of this total, 3,025,826 correspond to first doses; 2,638,148 they are second doses; 5,213 third doses to immunosuppressed patients; and 35,195 they are third booster doses.
In the world there have been 240,786,306 accumulated positive cases for Covid-19 and 4,900,724 deaths for a fatality rate of 2%.
Meanwhile, in Panama there are 460,786 recovered patients, 131 new positive cases, for a cumulative total of 470,395.
3,096 tests were applied and a percentage of positivity of 4.2% is maintained.
In the last 24 hours, 2 deaths have been registered, for a total of 7,294 accumulated and a fatality of 1.5%.
Active cases total 2,315. In home isolation, 2,111 are reported, of which 2,020 are at home and 91 in hotels. There are 204 hospitalized and 161 of them are in the ward and 43 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
