Patent war: Moderna sues Pfizer for infringement | Digital Trends Spanish

Moderna is suing Pfizer and BioNTech for alleged infringement of their patents for vaccine technology of mRNA, announced today the company.

“We are filing these lawsuits to protect the groundbreaking mRNA technology platform that we pioneered, spent billions of dollars creating, and patented over the decade before the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel.it’s a statement.

Moderna said Friday that Pfizer and BioNTech’s comirnaty vaccine infringes on patents that Moderna filed several years ago protecting the technology behind its preventative vaccine, Spikevax. The company filed patent infringement lawsuits in both a US federal court and a German court.

Pfizer spokeswoman Pam Eisele said the company had not fully reviewed Moderna’s lawsuit, but the drugmaker was surprised by it, given that its vaccine is based on proprietary technology developed by both BioNTech and Pfizer.

In the presentationthe company said: “Moderna refrained from enforcing its patents earlier so as not to distract from efforts to end the pandemic as quickly as possible.”
