PES is now called eFootball and will be completely free | Digital Trends Spanish

For several years, PES and FIFA embodied close competition for what was the most popular soccer video game on the planet. Now, Konami has given its iconic Pro Evolution Soccer a radical twist to distance itself from its rival in an ad that has surprised fans.

There will be no more PES, from now on, the game is renamed eFootball and it will become a free game for consoles, PC and cell phones.

This new title is expected to arrive in early fall on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One and PC, and later it will do the same on iOS and Android.

Of course, initially, the launch will have a series of reduced options: they will be exhibition matches and only nine starting teams.

With eFootball ™, we’re not just changing a name – we’re changing football gaming.#eFootball™ is Free-to-Play (F2P), meaning everyone can experience our game across console, PC and mobile – a fair and balanced experience for all players.#SetFootballFree

Konami has announced that only local matches with FC Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester United will be available at this stage. Meanwhile, some game modes will be sold later as optional DLC.

The company also announces improved graphics. The Motion Matching animation system advanced by Konami will have up to four times more animations than the 2020 version and will be present in all versions of the game, including mobile ones.

The company has explained that it changed the name since “the end result has been even more impressive than we had originally conceived. We have crossed the border of PES, entering a new world of virtual football. To mark the beginning of this new era, we have decided to abandon the PES brand for eFootball! ”

The ad also features a trailer that shows Messi and Neymar as its main figures.
