Phantom braking also affects millions of Honda | Digital Trends Spanish

A few days ago it became known that Tesla was under investigation because several of its vehicles had unexpectedly activated their emergency brake when driving on highways at high speed.

Now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation against the Honda company for a similar problem. According to the NHTSA, an investigation was opened on February 21 after 278 complaints were received of vehicles suddenly slowing down, despite the fact that there was nothing on the road.

The problem could be more worrisome than in the case of Tesla and would affect about 1.7 million cars. Thus, the complaints correspond to its SUV type CR-V from 2017 to 2019, and sedans type Accord from 2018 and 2019.

According to the regulatory body, of the 278 complaints, only six reported crashes with minor injuries; so far, no more serious accidents have been reported.

The investigation led by the regulator seeks to determine the total number of affected vehicles and how serious this problem would be. Depending on the results of the study, the NHTSA did not rule out recalling the vehicles from the market.

It should be remembered that, in the case of Tesla, some of the affected drivers admitted feeling fear at the time of sudden braking, since they thought that a vehicle could hit them from behind on the road.

US authorities acknowledged that they have received 354 complaints from Tesla vehicle owners related to phantom braking, which would affect models launched in 2021 and 2022.
