Philips televisions for 2022 debut the new OLED EX panels and an IMAX mode that looks spectacular

We already know the most attractive innovations that Philips will introduce in the televisions that it will place on the market during 2022. Like every year around this time, this company has revealed some of the most promising features of some proposals that will fight in a more competitive market than ever. We still don’t have all its specifications, but what we do know objectively looks good.

One of the most interesting novelties on which the new OLED televisions of this brand will be supported is that some of them, possibly the premium models, will incorporate the recent LG OLED EX panels. In addition, they will also implement a new image mode designed, according to Philips, to play IMAX content in the most spectacular and reliable way possible.

However, this is not all. Those responsible for this brand ensure that the new processor sixth generation P5 has allowed them to significantly improve the image processing algorithms. Even the Ambilight technology comes with improvements that look good on paper. Some of the televisions that will incorporate these novelties will be the ‘The One’ models, Philips’ flagship television, and OLED 807. In any case, this is far from all that we have been told.

OLED EX panels promise us more brightness, more efficiency and better images

We haven’t had a chance to test them yet, but, on paper, LG’s new OLED EX panels they look very good. One of the brands that will bet on them, as I mentioned in the first lines of this article, will be Philips, so it will be very interesting to see how they perform. And, above all, for image enthusiasts it will be exciting to discover if the new Samsung QD-OLED panels that Sony mounts in its new flagship model manage to outperform LG’s EX OLEDs.

The OLED EX arrays have a new layer structure, and some of them have a new chemical composition, with the purpose of refining the most relevant parameters of 3rd generation OLED panels: their global image quality, their maximum brightness and efficiency. According to Philips officials, their new TVs far outperform their predecessors in these areas (we’ll check when we get a chance to test them), and, as a bonus, these new panels allow the frames are even thinner.

The televisions that Philips will launch in 2022 will incorporate the sixth generation P5 chip and seven new picture modes

In any case, the panel is only one of the ingredients in the equation that describes the overall picture quality of a television. Image processing is also crucial, and although Philips has told us that it will release details about its new processing algorithms in the first half of this year, it has at least already promised that its new processor sixth generation P5 it will have a noticeable impact on the picture quality of televisions that will incorporate it.

One of the new features of these televisions in which the P5 processor is involved is its ability to identify the characteristics of ambient light to act in real time and transparently for the user on the ability to deliver light, the level of detail of shadow regions and color temperature. In this way, on paper, the television will adapt to ambient light to reduce eye strain for people looking at you and prevent your image quality from suffering. It will be interesting to see how this feature performs.

The ‘one-LED pixel’ implementation of its Ambilight technology allows you to recreate the color and shapes of the halo that surrounds the television with more precision and in a more immersive way

The P5 chip will intervene in the processing of all images, but will play a leading role in the reproduction of IMAX content. And it is that according to Philips the new IMAX Enhanced mode manages to increase the dynamic range and the level of detail of these contents. Sounds good, so we’ll give it a try as soon as we get a chance. In addition, this mark ensures that the new implementation one-LED pixel of its Ambilight technology allows you to recreate the color and shapes of the halo that surrounds the television with more precision and in a more immersive way.

A very good looking gaming panel also arrives

Like its predecessors, the televisions that this brand will launch in the coming months will be able to process Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG content. They will also incorporate full HDMI 2.1 connectivity, so they will implement VRR, ALLM technologies and they will allow us to deliver 2160p signals with a maximum cadence of 120 images per second.

These TVs feature a new gaming-specific panel and full HDMI 2.1 support

Philips has confirmed that its next televisions will be compatible with NVIDIA’s G-SYNC adaptive refreshment and AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro technologies, but in a way the most attractive novelty that they offer us in this scenario of use is a specific panel for games.

We can use it to act on any parameter of the image and sound with a stroke of the pen and no need to leave our game. We can see it in the capture that we publish below these lines, and it looks good. We hope to be able to thoroughly analyze these televisions as soon as they are available to explain in great detail what we think.
